Communications goals

Set the target,
let coverage score it.

Choose a period, set targets for releases, positive share, and tier 1 coverage, and watch real coverage score them for you.

Goals measured against reality

Targets that check themselves

Pick a period, monthly, quarterly, or yearly, and set targets for three things: releases published, the share of positive coverage, and articles in tier 1 outlets. Real coverage does the scoring.

While the period is open, the numbers update live. Close it, and they freeze into a record you can report from.

Choose a period

Set goals by month, quarter, or year, whichever matches how you plan.

Three clear targets

Releases published, positive share, and tier 1 coverage. Concrete, not vague.

Scored by coverage

Real, measured coverage scores each target, so the number is earned.

Live, then frozen

Actuals update while the period runs and freeze when you close it.

01

Set the targets

Pick the period and set a number for each of the three metrics you want to hold yourself to.

  1. 1Choose a monthly, quarterly, or yearly period.
  2. 2Set targets for releases, positive share, and tier 1 coverage.
  3. 3Save the plan and let the period begin.
02

Watch it score

While the period is open, coverage is collected and each target is scored against what actually ran.

  1. 1See actuals update as coverage comes in.
  2. 2Read tier 1 as a count of articles in tier 1 outlets.
  3. 3Spot a target falling behind while there is time to act.

Tier 1 coverage counts articles whose outlet is graded tier 1. It counts coverage; it does not match a release to an article, and it never claims which release earned which story.

03

Close and report

When the period ends, close it. The actuals freeze, and the result becomes a report you can hand up.

  1. 1Close the period when it ends.
  2. 2Let the actuals freeze into a record.
  3. 3Export the result for the report.

A metric with nothing measurable reads not measured, never zero. An empty result is not a score of nought.

What a period gives you

A goal you can defend, scored by coverage rather than opinion.

Three metrics

Releases published, positive share, and tier 1 coverage, each with a target.

Live actuals

Numbers that move with real coverage while the period is open.

Frozen record

A closed period that holds its numbers, ready to report from.

What the numbers mean

It scores what can be measured. Tier 1 coverage is a count of articles in tier 1 outlets, not a claim about which release produced them, because tracing a story back to a release is not something anyone can measure honestly. A metric with no measurable coverage reads not measured, so an empty result is never dressed up as a zero.

Name the goal.
Let coverage judge it.
